Most services require you to be at least 18 years old when you apply.
Good to know: There's no maximum age limit for most Australian fire services, but you must be able to meet the physical requirements and serve a minimum period before retirement age.

A valid driver's licence is required. Some states require specific classes.

How would you rate your current fitness level?
Firefighters must pass a Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) including a beep test to level 9.6.
The beep test: You'll need to reach level 9.6 (about 45 shuttles). This requires running 20m back and forth at increasing speeds. Most people need 8-12 weeks of training to pass.
